On March 29th, 2003 I took my two boys, Nick 12 and Luke 9 out with Garibaldi Charters on the Lite-Tackle trip.  We had a great time!  We arrived at the office at 6am to check in and then went to  the Nor'wester, their 43 ft charter boat. The sun was just coming up and it was a bit cold, but we had dressed with lots of layers so we were anxious to get going! 

The trip to the reef takes from 45 minutes to one hour depending on the tide and weather conditions.  The Nor'wester is equipped with two 205 horse deisels with a top speed of 15 knots.  Today the  weather and bar were perfect.  We were there in no time!

Update Norwester is being re-powered this year (2007)-We are installing 2 new 320 Turbo powered diesels with a cruising speed of 18-20 knots!

 The bait person had all the gear setup and ready  when the captain slowed down and the loud speaker sounded "GET  READY".   It only took a  matter of moments before my oldest son yelled "FISH ON"!  As you bring the fish up to the surface and see them for the first time you yell "COLOR", that alerts the bait person that you are about ready to land your catch.

Todays charter had ten fishermen so we could catch 100 fish total.  On this trip we caught 3 Cabezon (one 7lbs, one  5lbs and one 4.5lbs mine ) and 2 greenling.  The rest were Black Sea Bass.  We were headed back to Garibaldi by 11am. 

The trip back to port was smooth, with great views of the Oregon coast including Cape Meares Lighthouse and the Three Arch Rocks.  Before we knew it we were off loading the days catch.
(The fish  cleaning is included in your fees).  I think my kids enjoyed watching the man clean our fish as much as they did catching them!
We met and made new friends on this trip, along with some great memories!

We have cooked the Cabezon and Greenling & have a freezer full of Sea Bass.
